England under Roman Empire

After Julius Caesar’s failed invasions of 55 and 54 BC, a successful Roman invasion, led by Aulus Plautius, a Roman politician and general, landed in 43. Ordered by Claudius, Plautius’ forces quickly took control of the country, building alliances with local tribes.

Aulus Plautius was appointed as the first governor of the new Roman province from 43 to 46 AD.

Romans established a number of important settlements. They introduced the idea of a town as a center of power and administration. The Romans are credited with bringing city living, literacy and economic development to Britain.

Mining very important & agriculture. By the 3rd century, Britain's economy was diverse and well established.

During Rome’s early years, its expansion allowed it to acquire the wealth of knowledge from the civilizations it conquered. Greek thought heavily influenced the conquerors and  permeated into Roman society.

Between 388 to 400AD, Romans begin to leave Britain and by 410ADBritain became independent.
