
The London Eye is a relatively new attraction, opened officially on 31 December 1999 but for visitors only in March 2000, for technical reason. It was originally called the Millennium Eye to celebrate the turn of the millennium, was originally intended to close after five years.
This is the world’s largest observation wheel. It stands 135 m high on the south bank of the River Thames.
Architects David Marks and Julia Barfield’s design won a competition of construction projects coinciding with the start of the third millennium and it took 6 years to realise.
